I unpacked the file; tried opening/ playing it in both Audacity and VLC player (I even tried Windows Media Player, no luck). I wanted to test and, if necessary, convert and then burn it to disc.
All I get is white noise/static. too bad. it took 5 attempts to download, and a full 12 hours to get the file.

Ah well, such is life.

One of my college professors would play the Mars track every morning to make sure we were all awake before he began class.

Can you Re-Upload to DataFile? Tried Ex-Load and it took forever. I think there is something wrong with the file as JRiver Media Center cannot play back the first movement at all with any of its plugins or DirectShow Filters

Nevermind! No need to re-upload! I was able to convert it to a 6ch FLAC file that JRiver can play back just fine using FooBar2000. I hate that program, but it seems to play nicely with all DTS files for whatever reason.

No, you don't need it. You may download it for free from Ex-load.
